D’Angelo to perform on ‘Saturday Night Live’ later this month

Performance will mark D'Angelo's first television appearance since surprise release of 'Black Messiah' album

D’Angelo will perform live on US TV show Saturday Night Live later this month.

The R&B singer will make his debut on the show on January 31. The episode will also feature Oscar nominated Whiplash actor JK. Simmons. This performance will mark D’Angelo’s first television appearance following the surprise release of his third album ‘Black Messiah’ in December last year.

‘Black Messiah’ was released some 14 years after D’Angelo’s last album, ‘Voodoo’. The album was originally planned for release in 2015 but protests in Ferguson over the death of Michael Brown, and the subsequent decision to not indict the police officer responsible, made those involved with making the record want to put it out as soon as possible.

D’Angelo will play:

Birmingham Academy (February 17, 2015)
Manchester Apollo (18)
London Apollo (20)
