The driver at the centre of THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND sewage-dumping scandal has pleaded guilty to reckless conduct and been sentenced to community service.
The normally mild-mannered US rockers hit the headlines last August when 360kg of human waste was dropped onto a sightseeing boat from the bus in Chicago.
Stefan Wohl, 42 from Selma, Texas, originally denied discharging the waste into the Chicago River from the Kinzie Street bridge, and drenching the boat’s passengers in human excrement.
But Wednesday (March 9) saw Wohl plead guilty to reckless conduct and discharging contaminates. He was given 18 months probation and 150 hours community service, as well as a $10,000 dollar fine which will be donated to the Friends Of Chicago River conservation group, reports BBC News.
The Dave Matthews Band, none of whom were on board the bus at the time, have already donated $105,000 to environmental groups, and offered their “deepest apologies” to the boat’s passengers.
