David Bowie wins internet award

Beastie Boys get online honour too

David Bowie won a Webby last night (June 5)- dubbed the ‘Oscars of the internet’.

Bowie received a Lifetime Achievement Award in New York.

As well as launching BowieNet in 1998, the singer created UltraStar– a digital media company creates online content for artists like The Rolling Stones and BowieArt– a site which connects emerging visual artists with collectors worldwide.

In his speech he said: “I only get give words? Shit that was five. Four more there. That’s three… two.”

Meanwhile, Beastie Boys won the award for Best Artist for a music video made up of fans’ footage. They asked “Can anyone fix my computer?” in their acceptance speech.
