David Bowie‘s final album ‘Blackstar’ has been revealed as the highest-selling vinyl record of the past year.

The Official Charts Company launched the UK’s first-ever vinyl chart in April 2015, marking its one year anniversary by announcing a list of the most popular vinyl albums of the past twelve months.

Topping the list is Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’, released on his 69th birthday (January 8) and two days before his death. The album is followed in the albums countdown by Adele‘s ’25’, Amy Winehouse‘s ‘Back To Black[/a], The Stone Roses‘ self-titled album and the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack. Noel Gallagher‘s High Flying Birds dominate the singles sales, along with Bowie. Gallagher’s ‘Riverman’ was the biggest-selling vinyl single of last year. See the full singles countdown below.

Official Charts statistics show that 2.39 million vinyl albums have been sold in the UK in the last year, with a further 222,000 singles bought during this period.

Meanwhile, Billboard reports that almost 640,000 vinyl albums were sold between January and March of this year, with overall vinyl sales growing by 60 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2016.

A recent survey suggested that nearly half of vinyl buyers don’t actually play their records.
