David Byrne to turn London Roundhouse into an instrument

Former Talking Heads man planning new project

Former Talking Heads man David Byrne is set to turn the London Roundhouse venue into a playable instrument for a new installation at the venue.

Byrne‘s project, entitled ‘Playing The Building’, will involve a pump organ being set up in the middle of the venue, with wires emanating from it connecting with various parts of the building.

When the organ is played the vibrations will cause the parts of the building to create sounds, meaning that visitors can “play” the building, as such. Pipes will be turned into flute-like instruments, while the walls will act as giant drums.

The installation will run from August 8 to 31 and follows a successful run in New York‘s Battery Maritime Building last year.
