TOMMY BOY RECORDS, home to DE LA SOUL, EVERLAST and others has signed a landmark deal to licence and promote its material on the Internet.
The label has joined previously underfire Music Service Provider [url=]www.mp3.com
to licence its entire catalogue for use by the company’s www.mp3.com, with 698,000 songs, their site is host to the largest such collection on the web.
The move by Tommy Boy is significant because only a few months ago, MP3.COM was sued by several of the world’s biggest record labels claiming breach of copyright over material to which their site played host.
MP3.com reached a $53.4 million settlement with Universal Records over the infringement earlier this month. The site will also look after Tommy Boy’s online marketing and promotion.
