Death Cab For Cutie share first demo for ‘You Are A Tourist’

Featuring a sample from OMD’s 'Dazzle Ships'

Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has shared the first demo for ‘You Are A Tourist’ – the lead single from their 2011 album ‘Codes And Keys’.

Uploading the demo to SoundCloud, Gibbard revealed that the demo originally featured a sample from OMD’s ‘Dazzle Ships’.

“hey y’all! here’s the original demo for DCFC’s You Are a Tourist. the hook on this version is a sample from OMD’s brilliant lp, Dazzle Ships,” he wrote. “we went in another direction on the album but i’ve always had a soft spot for this one. enjoy! xo Ben”

Ben Gibbard recently walked off the stage mid-set at one of the band’s gigs last week. Bassist Harmer detailed the situation to Billboard. “It was the last 20 seconds of the last song and all of Ben’s equipment failed at the exact kind of unrelated moment there was a giant fight in front of us,” he said.

Harmer added: “We would’ve finished the song but we’re all feeling a little skittish after Orlando and things were just – we weren’t sure what was happening. Suddenly, there was this moment in the crowd where we don’t see this kind of energy happen in front of us”.

“It’s kind of scary, so we stop as a band thinking somebody’s hurt or something’s happening, but that also just happened to coincide with the same other thing that was happening with Ben and all of his gear problems.” You can listen to the original ‘You Are A Tourist’ demo below.
