THE COLLABORATOR SESSIONS

nme.com rounds up the collaborators to one of the strongest contenders for record of the year

We present ‘The Contino Sessions’ collaborators sounding off to nme.com as a lead in to the webcast of tonight’s Death In Vegas NME Premier Tour at 9pm.

Jim Reid, Ex Jesus And Mary Chain (now TV 69) – singer on ‘Broken Little Sister’

“I think Bobby suggested that they work with me. I’d heard the name, but I didn’t know much about them. They called me up asked if I want to do it. I knew Iggy was involved and that’s pretty good company to be in.

“The track that I sang on sounds a bit like early Mary Chain, it’s about somebody I know, and I don’t really want to go into it too much. It’s somebody who needs their head looked at. It’s about a nutter I know.”

Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream – singer on ‘Soul Auctioneer’

“I think it’s a great album, Death In Vegas have got their own sound, their own feel, their atmospheres. This album has got a single vision on it. I think it sounds really lovely, it’s very melancholy but there’s some beautiful music on it.

“Their record company doesn’t understand it, but that’s what record companies are there for. I think it’s a brave record in the current climate, and that’s a statement in itself.”

Dot Allison – singer on ‘Dirge’ and Richard Fearless‘s girlfriend

“My perception of Richard‘s writing process is that it’s getting purer and purer. I can’t speak for him, but I think this record is a lot close to the album he wanted to make.

“It reflects his music tastes much more, he’s really into Suicide and garage punk. He really wanted to make a psychedelic rock record, and I think he has.”
