Deerhoof unveil Tim Burton-inspired ‘Tiny Bubbles’ video – watch

Deerhoof have released a new animated video for their track ‘Tiny Bubbles’. Click above to watch.

The song is taken from the band’s most recent album ‘La Isla Bonita’, which was released last November.

The clip, directed by Geoff Hoskinson, is said to be inspired by the work of filmmaker Tim Burton and, according to the press release, “parallels the odd musical admixtures of military drumming, spaghetti western melodies, and mannered dance rhythms, as well as the Jonathan Crary-inspired lyrics about capitalist and imperial propaganda”.

The band had previously recruited actor Michael Shannon to star in their ‘Exit Only’ video. Directed by Vice Cooler, ‘Exit Only’ features the star – best known for his work on TV series Boardwalk Empire and movies Revolutionary Road, The Iceman and Man of Steel – playing two roles. Having obtained supernatural powers via a CD player and headphones, the first Shannon magically tortures the second Shannon horrifically before being defeated by the heavy guitar riffs of band member Ed Rodriguez.

‘La Isla Bonita marked Deerhoof’s 20 year anniversary and, according to drummer Greg Saunier, came together after attempts by the band to write a song in the vein of the Ramones. “We suddenly realised ‘This is the whole thing, this is what the whole record is about’,” he said.
