Bradford Cox's band return for their eighth album next year
Deerhunter have announced details of their eighth studio album, ‘Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?’, and shared a video for its first track.
The Atlanta band, led by Bradford Cox, will release their first record in four years on January 18, 2019. It was produced by Cate Le Bon, Ben H. Allen III, Ben Etter, and Deerhunter.
Le Bon, Allen, White Fence’s Tim Presley, and Ian Horrocks also appear on the record, which is described as “a science fiction album about the present.”
In a press release, the album’s tracklist is provided with notes, with one revealing ‘No One’s Sleeping’ pertains to the 2016 murder of Labour MP Jo Cox. ‘Death In Midsummer’, the first track to be shared from the record, deals with revolution in 1917 St. Petersburg. You can watch the video for the latter below.
The full tracklist for ‘Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?’ is as follows:
‘Death In Midsummer’
‘No One’s Sleeping’
‘What Happens To People’
Deerhunter’s last album ‘Fading Frontier‘ was released in 2015. In a five-star review, NME called the record “the most direct, unflinching album Deerhunter have ever made, and quite possibly the best” that “sometimes feels like the second part of a duology about breakdown and recovery.”
