Band dedicate 'Change (In The House of Flies)' to former band member who passed away in April
Deftones paid an emotional tribute to late bassist Chi Cheng from the Main Stage at Reading Festival today (August 23).
Frontman Chino Moreno dedicated ‘Change (In The House of Flies)’ from the band’s 2000 album ‘White Pony’ during the set to Cheng. He simply said: “This one is for Chi,” before launching into the track. Cheng died in April of this year, after being in a coma for four years, following a car accident in 2008. He was replaced by current bassist Sergio Vega in 2009. Korn members Brian “Head” Welch and Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, along with members of Sevendust, Slipknot, recorded and released “A Song for Chi”, with the benefits going towards him and his family during that year too. To aid in the fundraising for the Cheng family, the band also announced two benefit shows in Los Angeles for November 2009.
Earlier, Deftones took to the festival’s largest stage at 6pm, ahead of System Of A Down and Green Day, with Moreno announcing “It’s wonderful to be here, thank you for having us – we’re Deftones, we’re from California.”
After strapping on a guitar for ‘Rosemary’, the frontman later went down to the front of the crowd and sang into the pit, taking a pink Hawaiian floral garland from a fan and wearing it for most of the set, before giving it to the drummer during the climax of the show, which came in the shape of ‘7 Words’.
