Chico Moreno has been given the all-clear to continue the band's tour - but he won't be living it up down the pub...

DEFTONES singer CHINO MORENO has been instructed to see a vocal coach and give up smoking and drinking to prevent further throat problems, after being given the all-clear by doctors to resume the band’s co-headline tour of North America with GODSMACK.

As previously reported, the band were forced to cancel four shows, including a hometown date at Sacramento, when he fell ill with severe throat problems.

After intensive treatment by a Los Angeles ear, nose and throat specialist, he was able to sing again at the band’s gigs in Phoneix and Albuquerque last weekend (July 21 and 22).

The doctor has instructed him to begin seeing a vocal coach to learn how to properly care for his voice, including the correct method to warm it up before shows. The doctor also suggested that he abstain from smoking, alcohol, carbonated drinks, and caffeine, and to rest his voice as much as possible immediately following a show.

The band took time to meet a 17-year-old fan with spina bifida, Matthew Elliott, who had travelled from Newfoundland to the band’s San Diego show, which was cancelled last Friday (July 20). Matthew, who was flown with his family courtesy of Canadian charity Sunshine Dreams For Kids, was driven in a limousine to Deftones‘ Los Angeles hotel for lunch with the band. He then spent the afternoon with Chino.
