The sold-out Sacramento gig is pulled due to singer Chico Moreno's throat problem...

DEFTONES were forced to pull out of a sold-out hometown gig in SACRAMENTO on Sunday (July 15) after lead singer CHINO MORENO fell ill.

The singer was taken to an emergency room at a Sacramento hospital after complaining of severe throat pain. A spokesperson for the band said that they are currently awaiting test results, and Moreno has been ordered not to use his voice for between 24 and 48 hours.

Moreno also had to cancel a 90-minute special live radio appearance which was scheduled for last night (July 16), and was replaced by drummer Abe Cunningham.

Moreno is to see an ear, nose and throat doctor in Sacramento, and has an appointment to visit a specialist in Los Angeles later this week.

The band, who returned to the US from a series of European dates last week, are hoping to reschedule the show in the autumn.

They kicked off a five-week co-headline tour with Godsmack last Thursday (July 12) in Spokane. It is not yet clear whether further dates will be affected.

The tour is scheduled to continue tonight (July 17) at Mountain View Shoreline Amphitheatre in California, and winds up at Virginia Beach Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on August 9.
