Depeche Mode are set to release their brand new album in March 2013.
The electronic icons have not yet revealed the name of the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Sounds Of The Universe’ – which will come out on Columbia Records – but Martin Gore of the band has said the record contains some of the band’s best ever work. He commented:
I am very happy with how the album turned out. The music has a similar vibe to ‘Violator’ and ‘Songs of Faith and Devotion’ and I think there are a few songs on the album that are among some of the very best we’ve done.
Dave Gahan of the band added that the album has a ‘soulful vibe’, saying: “The album has a very organic and direct feel to it. It’s not a blues record, but it definitely has a soulful vibe. During the recording process we really tried to get the elements of performing and the live show into the album more.”
More details on the album will be released in coming weeks. Meanwhile, the band recently announced an extra concert at London’s O2 Arena in May 2013.
They will now play the venue on Wednesday, May 29 as well as the previously announced show on May 28. These are currently the only UK dates the band have announced as part of a wider European tour next year.
Depeche Mode’s 34-date European tour kicks off on May 7 in Tel Aviv and features stop-offs at the Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium (July 7), BBK Festival in Spain (July 11) and Optimus Alive Festival in Portugal (July 13). A North American tour will follow later in the year.
