Kelly Rowland confirms departure from ‘The X Factor’ judging panel

Ex-Destiny's Child singer blames 'scheduling issues'

Kelly Rowland has confirmed her departure from the judging panel of this year’s series of The X Factor.

The ex-Destiny’s Child singer cited “scheduling issues” and “global commitments” as the reasons why she wouldn’t be returning to Simon Cowell’s talent show behemoth, which is due to return later this year.

In a statement, Rowland said she had been unable to find a “workable solution” to her time conflicts after deliberating with the show for a number of weeks.

Rowland commented:

I love the UK and being part of the show last year. Mentoring the girls was such an incredible experience I will never forget. I would like to thank Simon for the great opportunity and asking me to be a judge last season.

Rowland joined the programme as part of a new-look panel in 2011 which also featured Take That’s Gary Barlow and former N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos.
Danni Minogue has already been rumoured to return to the show to replace Rowland. Kylie’s sister joined the programme in 2007, leaving in 2010.

Last year’s series of The X Factor was widely considered a ratings flop after steadily losing viewers in the opening weeks of its run. The show’s winners Little Mix scored a UK Number One with their cover of Damien Rice’s ‘Cannonball’, which was the fastest selling single of 2011, while also being the lowest-selling winner’s single since 2004.
