Destiny's Child storm straight to Number One with single 'Survivor'...

DESTINY’S CHILD held off stiff competition to go straight in at Number One in the UK singles chart tonight (April 22) with their latest single ‘SURVIVOR’.

The Texas trio debuted at the top of the charts, beating Ronan Keating‘s ‘Lovin’ Each Day’ into the Number Two position and the US version of Hear’say, O-Town, who have gone straight in at Number Three with their UK debut ‘Liquid Dreams’. Missy Elliott‘s ‘Get UR Freak On’ debuts at Number Four.

Speaking live on BBC Radio 1, the band’s Kelly told Mark Goodier that she was thrilled with the band’s second UK Number One – the first being Independent Woman (Part 1)’.

She said: “We’re so surprised and so excited. We’re very proud to say that we’ve had another Number One single in the UK. Few artists get to say that, especially girl groups. We’re so blessed with that – thank you!”

Elsewhere in the Top Ten, Madonna scores her 53rd UK by going in at Number Seven with ‘What It Feels Like For A Girl’ Now only Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley have had more UK hit singles.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, former Number One ‘It Wasn’t Me’ by Shaggy is at Number Five, Gabrielle is at Number Six with ‘Out Of Reach’, former Number One Emma Bunton is at Number Eight with ‘What Took You So Long’.

Other new entries included Snoop Dogg with ‘Snoop Dogg’ at Number 13, Chiller at Number 17 with ‘Das Glockenspiel’, and Orbital went straight in at Number 21 with ‘Funny Break’.

Further down the charts, The Corrs have gone in at Number 27 with ‘Give Me A Reason’ and Airhead Stanley are in at Number 36 with ‘Here I Am’.
