The band play storming London show ahead of festivals…

Dinosaur Jr made their long-awaited UK live return in LONDON last night (June 8).

Anticipation had been feverish for the first European dates from the proto-grunge pioneers, who played with their original line-up for the first time in over 15 years.

Frontman J Mascis kept the Dinosaur Jr name alive for a series of semi-solo albums throughout the nineties, but this, their 80s incarnation, is considered to be the classic line-up.

And having settled their differences, Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph arrived on UK soil at a time when their influence is in the ascendant through bands like Nine Black Alps and The Cribs.

Taking the stage for the first of two nights at the London Forum, the three members kept chat to a minimum, Mascis speaking only to thank the crowd towards the end.

As well as their cover of The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’, the setlist was, predictably, taken from the band’s first three albums, ‘Dinosaur’, ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ and ‘Bug’.

It was:

’In A Jar’

’Little Fury Things’

’No Bones’

’Forget The Swan’

’The Lung’

’Freak Scene’

’Just Like Heaven’

’Does It Float?’

’Mountain Man’

The band play the same venue tonight, and can also be seen tomorrow (June 10) at the Download festival.
