'We're thinking about doing something for Major Lazer with her,' comments the producer of the artist, who is also his ex
MIA gave an interview to Rolling Stone on the 10th anniversary of her debut album ‘Arular’ and said that her relationship with Diplo broke down over what she now sees to have been jealousy over her success and started as soon as she signed her first record deal with XL Recordings.
Now, speaking to Billboard, Diplo says he saw MIA the day after the interview came out and she apologised. “I hadn’t seen her in five years,” he commented. “Nothing she said is a lie. I was really jealous and sad, and probably mad when she signed to a major label. I had a lot of control when we started, and I was really proud of the music we made. The label promised her all these people to work with, and I was like, ‘But your thing is this.'”
Saying he now wants to make music with MIA for Major Lazer, he continued: “I probably made mistakes in our relationship, but we made awesome music. Every time we had a fight, we made good music after. I want to find a new artist I can fight with all the time and make awesome songs with. That’s Skrillex. (Laughs.) We’re thinking about doing something for Major Lazer with her. She’s so awesome still, and her attitude is much better now.”
In the original interview, MIA explained: “XL took notice and gave me a record deal, and that was like the most liberating thing on the planet”. However, when she signed with Interscope, she said Diplo “literally smashed my hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was so angry I got picked up by a major label and it was the corniest thing in the world that could possibly happen.”
Following MIA’s revelatory interview, the pair met up and posted the following picture on Instagram.
MIA recently shared a new song titled ‘Can See Can Do’. The song is MIA’s first new music since the release of ‘Matangi’ in 2013. Listen to the song below.
