The producer angered fans by saying that 'someone should make a Kickstarter campaign to get Taylor Swift a booty'
In November 2014, Diplo had ignited the public feud by tweeting that “someone should make a kickstarter campaign to get Taylor Swift a booty”, leading to much criticism from Swift’s fans and even fellow pop star Lorde jumping to Swift’s defence and replying: “Should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it hm.”
Now, the electronic producer has discussed the incident with GQ Style. Diplo said: “It’s like an army that’s worse than North Korea… All I know is don’t ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift [again]. She has like 50 million people that will die for her.”
Diplo continued: “You can’t step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for … one of the biggest mistakes of my career was definitely fucking with her.”
Lorde later stressed that her tweet had been sent in jest and that her and Diplo are “friends”, saying: “I love Wes [Pentz, Diplo’s real name] and he’s a big brother to me and one of my first friends in the industry, and part of having a friendship with someone like that is not letting them say stupid shit. Taylor’s my friend as well, and I’m a girl, and if I see some weird body-shaming on my feed I’m going to be like, ‘Hey man…’ We do still love each other, hopefully.”
Diplo and Swift later met at the 2015 Grammy Awards and appeared to patch things up, even posting a photo together on Instagram (see above).
Meanwhile, Diplo will release a new Major Lazer album later this year, which will feature Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Pusha-T and Gwen Stefani. Major Lazer and Ariana Grande previously worked together on ‘All My Love’, a track that featured on the Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack.
Major Lazer were recently announced as part of the line-up for this year’s Wireless Festival at London’s Finsbury Park in July. They join A$AP Rocky and headliner Drake on the Friday of the event.
