Disclosure and AlunaGeorge being sued by songwriter who alleges groups’ hits use her lyrics

Katie Farrah Sopher claims to have written words for 'Latch', 'White Noise', 'You And Me' and 'Attracting Flies'

Disclosure are being sued by a songwriter who claims to have written the lyrics to three of their hits.

Katie Farrah Sopher is seeking £200,000 over claims that Disclosure’s ‘Latch’, ‘White Noise’ and ‘You And Me’ use lyrics taken from a songbook of hers that was stolen by a ‘violent’ ex-boyfriend, Sean Sawyers, in 2009. She alleges that Sawyers passed the songbook on to music industry contacts.

Sopher is reportedly also seeking to damages from Alunageorge, claiming that she wrote the lyrics to their song ‘Attracting Flies’. AlunaGeorge’s Aluna Francis sung lead vocals on Disclosure’s UK Number Two hit ‘White Noise’.

In her testimony, reported by The Daily Mail, Sopher claims that the four songs were inspired by the abuse she claims she endured during her five-year relationship with Sawyers.

Sawyers denies all allegations. In his defence, filed with the High Court, Sawyers stated: “I am denying all the allegations… There is zero truth to the claims made against me. I never saw the book the claimant mentions… [so] I could not have committed the alleged damages, theft, (and) copyright infringement.”

Disclosure and AlunaGeorge did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Mail or NME.
