Four Tet and Disclosure mourn loss of London club Dance Tunnel

The East London haunt will close permanently in August

London club Dance Tunnel have revealed today that they will be permanently closing their doors in August due to licensing problems.

In a statement on Facebook, the venue commented: “We regret to announce that Dance Tunnel is to close its doors in August. Sadly the licensing climate in Hackney has made it impossible for us to get the hours we need to make Dance Tunnel sustainable in the long term.

“We would like to sincerely apologise to all the Tunnel Dancers who we are letting down. We really tried to make it work. Thanks to all the artists, DJs, promoters and family members who have shared their favourite music and moments with us over the last three-and-a-bit years. Thanks to everyone who has made our basement such a special place. Sorry we never got round to fixing that slope on the dancefloor.”

The club was known to stay open until 3am, sometimes 5am, with nights hosted by renowned promoters such as FWD>>, Mono_cult and Ostgut Ton.

Four Tet and Disclosure have mourned the loss of the Dalston hot spot on Twitter. Disclosure commented, “Sad to hear @DanceTunnel is shutting its doors had some good times at that spot! All the best to those involved,” with Four Tet adding “still just losing more venues in London for all the wrong reasons… sad times.”

The producer went on to say that “there is no club in London right now where the sound is so good it will change your life,” before concluding “I want to buy the Trocadero and turn it into the London equivalent of Berghain. If you have nuff money and want to help please get in touch.”
