Dizzee Rascal breaks up fight at Eden Sessions

Rapper headlined last night's Eden Sessions with ASUS Transformer Book (June 21) in Cornwall, which also featured Katy B

Dizzee Rascal broke up a fight in the crowd last night (June 21) as he kicked off this summer’s Eden Sessions run of gigs in Cornwall.

The rapper, who was the first in a series of headliners to play at the venue this summer and was supported by Katy B, stopped halfway through performing ‘Just A Rascal’ from his debut LP ‘Boy In Da Corner’ to ask security not to eject two fans.

“Don’t kick them out, don’t kick them out,” he yelled to laughs and cheers from the crowd. “Just separate them. Peace and love and all that kind of shit. No-one’s got shot, no-one’s got stabbed.”

Dizzee started the gig with ‘Here 2 China’ as he told the audience: “Where’s the fucking noise? My name is Dizzee fucking Rascal. Let’s do this shit.” He then embarked on a set which drew upon the biggest hits of his back-catalogue as well as some older cuts including ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’, ‘I Luv U’ and ‘Sirens’.

‘We Don’t Play Around’ then followed, with singer Daniel Pearce standing in for Jessie J, before a sharp run of hit singles including the Calvin Harris collaboration ‘Dance Wiv Me’, ‘Holiday’ and ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’. Introducing ‘Love This Town’, meanwhile, he announced: “I come from London, best city in the world”. Acknowledging the lacklustre attitude of the Cornish crowd towards the capital, however, he laughed and added: “But fuck London because we’re in your town tonight.”

He closed his set with an extended version of his Number One single ‘Bonkers’, which included a spectacular stage show including flashing green lazers, large plumes of smoke, fireworks and falling confetti.

The Eden Sessions with ASUS Transformer Book are set to continue on June 25, with a headline set from US dubstep DJ Skrillex. Other acts set to perform at the festival this summer include Elbow, Pixies and Ellie Goulding.

Earlier in the evening, Katy B included a cover of Baby D’s 1994 house classic ‘Let Me Be Your Fantasy’ in her set as well as material from her 2011 debut ‘On A Mission’ and its follow-up ‘Little Red’, which was released earlier this year.

Wearing a zebra-print outfit and backed by four backing dancers also clad in black and white, she began with ‘Emotions’ as she told the crowd: “When the DJ drops a tune, it gets everyone feeling the same emotion at the same time”. Before ‘Broken Record’, meanwhile, she demanded: “Are we ready to tear up the lawn? I wanna see it in shreds.”

After racing through ‘Easy Please Me, ‘Aaliyah’ and ‘Crying For No Reason’, she saved the best for last: a fierce, jungle-influenced version of ‘Katy On A Mission’, which drew a huge reaction from the growing crowd. She then bowed out with ‘Lights On’, which was dedicated to “all the 24 hour party people who never want to stop.”
