Rapper says his upcoming album 'The Fifth' is 'like a Smash Hits compilation'
Dizzee Rascal has insisted he doesn’t care if some music fans think he’s become too commercial.
The rapper’s upcoming album ‘The Fifth’ includes contributions with Jessie J, will.i.am and Lady Gaga’s producer RedOne. The lead single, ‘Goin’ Crazy’, is a seemingly unlikely collaboration with Robbie Williams. “I like the fact some people might turn their noses up,” he said of the collaboration, speaking to The Sun.
“This album is like a Smash Hits compilation,” he added. “But I haven’t got a problem if a track is big with the kids or the housewives. People are more music snobs than the artists.”
Dizzee also insisted he’s more of a rock and indie fan than some people might presume. “I’ve always had a varied taste. I’m a kid from the ’90s so I remember Blur and Oasis and I also liked Iron Maiden, Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses,” he said.
Dizzee’s new album ‘The Fifth’ is released on July 1. He’s due to perform right before Arctic Monkeys on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage tonight (June 28) before playing festivals across Europe through July and August. He’ll return to the UK for a set at T In The Park on July 13.
