Dizzee Rascal makes live comeback at Newcastle’s Evolution Festival

The grime star played a hit packed set last night (June 3)

Dizzee Rascal returned from a lengthy sabbatical last night (June 3) at Evolution Festival in Newcastle.

As rain poured down over the Quayside and fireworks lit up the Tyne, the crowd were bombarded with a relentless greatest hits set, with ‘Sirens’, ‘Just A Rascal’ and ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’ all making an appearance.

New single ‘The Power’, which featured another of the day’s acts DJ Fresh, who had headlined the festival’s smaller Ballast Hills stage, was a welcome addition to a setlist that didn’t deviate massively from last year’s V Festival appearance.

Earlier this year, Dizzee revealed that his own forthcoming new LP, which will be his fifth studio effort and the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’, will feature contributions from house producer Erick Morillo and Calvin Harris.

Dizzee kick-started his 2012 comeback with the release of a free mixtape at the beginning of the year (January 1) and later admitted that he still liked “making big pop records” and had no plans to abandon his mainstream chart success.

The rapper, who took a break from music last year, signed a new record deal with Universal Music, shortly after the label agreed to purchase the recorded music division of EMI.

Dizzee Rascal played:

‘Road Rage’
‘Sirens’
‘Bassline Junkie’
‘Jus’ A Rascal’
‘Heavy’
‘Party on Fifth Ave’/’Warriors Dance’
‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’
‘Chillin Wiv Da Man Dem’
‘Scream’ w/ Pepper
‘Dirtee Disco’
‘Dance Wiv Me’
‘You Got The Dirtee Love’
‘The Power’ w/ DJ Fresh
‘Holiday’
‘Bonkers’
