Steve Aoki has found an innovative way of garnering new revenue for his Dim Mak label – by renting out its office for a DJ-themed porn film.
It is reported that the EDM artist hired out a space inside the LA office to a “friend” in 2009 who used the bathrooms to shoot the flick.
The film features a woman sneaking into a storage room and hastily attempting to smuggle some CDs into her tight leggings. Soon afterwards, a German “DJ” wearing a Dim Mak T-shirt turns up and attempts to get his hands on the CDs and finds the woman hiding in a bathroom that’s plastered wall-to-wall with Dim Mak logos.
Speaking about it on Twitter, Grammy-nominated Aoki claimed he only got $300 for his trouble. “We never made a porn by the way. That was our ‘friend’ that paid us 300 dollars to use our bathroom”, he wrote.
Since it was formed in 1996 by Aoki, Dim Mak has broken various artists in the US, including Bloc Party and The Kills.
In August, Aoki himself made headlines after he threw cake in fans’ faces during his DJ sets. Addressing his habit, he wrote a column for the Daily Beast in which he labeled anyone who complained about being caked a “troll”.
“I still can’t help but ask myself… should I stop caking people? Will that stop the haters from hating? Stop giving the trolls more content to target me with?” he wrote. ” I even ask myself, are the cakes and the rafts taking away from the art of my culture, DJing? I’m sure many people feel that I am because things I do are not part of the norm.”
