Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s Morgan Quaintance has responded to claims in NME.COM’s review of the band’s debut album that himself and drummer Rob Bloomfield are not real members of the band.
There have been continual rumours that the two are session musicians hired by instrumentalists James Rushent and Dan Coop.
NME.COM’s review of ‘You Have No Idea What You Are Getting Yourself Into’ additionally claimed Quaintance is keen to leave and concentrate on his side project, Plugs, another rumour which has been circulating.
The singer has refuted these claims, however, writing on the band’s website: “The first rumour is that Rob and I are somehow not part of DIOYY, that we are sort of ‘hired hands’ if you know what I mean. This couldn’t be farther from the truth, both Rob and I are fully functioning members of DIOYY. DIOYY is our band as much as it is James‘ and Dan‘s.
“The second rumour is I’m waiting to jump ship to focus on my side-project Plugs. This is just complete nonsense. First of all, from the word go DIOYY have functioned under the proviso that there is no real frontman and that if anything you have two, in me and James, ying and yang, ‘Dempsey And Makepeace, Del Boy and Rodney.
“Okay, the last thing we want to say is that we are not criticising anyone journalistically speaking. Freedom of the press is a concept I wholly embrace, and I’m just happy we’re getting written about. We [just] don’t want you thinking that there’s some sordid swindle going on and that the band onstage are some kind of fabrication. All we want to do is play music, throw down on stage, have a party, and get f**cked with a bunch of friends old and new.”
