And guess who we want to win...

Doves are looking to score their highest-ever singles chart placing this Sunday (July 28) with ‘POUNDING’.

Taken from their second album ‘The Last Broadcast’, ‘Pounding’ is the follow up to ‘There Goes The Fear’, which reached Number Three in April. However, ‘Pounding’ is not a limited edition like ‘There Goes The Fear’, giving it extra sales potential with which to knock off ‘Pop Idol’ runner-up Gareth Gates from the top spot. Gates is currently enjoying his second week at Number One with his second single, ‘Any One Of Us (Stupid Mistake)’.

Doves’ main competition comes fromGorillaz, who have released ‘Lil Dub Chefin’’ from the Gorillaz Vs Space Monkey dub reworking of their debut album, ‘Laika Come Home’. The Streets are also tipped to do well with ‘Weak Become Heroes’.

Gareth Gates could, however, be knocked off his perch by fellow ‘Pop Idol’ loser, Darius. The controversial singer, who declared he’d have a platinum album by the time he was 30 when booted off another reality star search programme, ‘Popstars’, is testing his popularity with the record-buying public by releasing his debut single, ‘Colourblind’.
