Download festival to pay tribute to Ronnie James Dio and Slipknot’s Paul Gray

Plus Ratt replaced by FM at the Donington Park bash

Download festival is set to host a number of tributes to musicians who have passed away in recent months, including Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, Ronnie James Dio and former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable.

There will be two video tributes shown throughout the festival this weekend (June 11-13) on the Main Stage.

The first takes place at 8pm (BST) tomorrow night (June 11) shortly before AC/DC take to the stage for their headline slot. It will feature tributes to Dio, Gray, Cable, Pete Steele (Type O Negative), Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan (Avenged Sevenfold), Mike Alexander (Evile) and ‘Monsters Of Rock’ co-founder Maurice Jones – who the Main Stage is named after.

A second tribute focusing on Gray takes place on the Saturday night on the Main Stage before Rage Against The Machine‘s headline slot.

In other Download news, Ratt have pulled out due to injury. Their Main Stage slot at 11:45am on Sunday (June 13) will see them replaced by FM.

NME will be coming live from both the Download and Isle Of Wight festivals this weekend. Head to NME.COM/festivals for the latest news, photos, videos, blogs and more straight from both sites.
