Drake‘s latest album ‘Views’ went by the working title of ‘Views From The 6’, referring to the rapper’s nickname for his hometown of Toronto. However, a new survey has found that hardly anyone in Toronto actually calls the city by that name.
As local newspaper The Toronto Star reports, researchers asked 864 people how they refer to the city, with a massive 75% simply referring to it as “Toronto”.
Only 7% of people were found to refer to Toronto as “The 6”, with those aged 18-34 seen as more likely to do so. Less people were found to use that nickname than “T.O” (10%).
While Drake didn’t coin the nickname himself (T.O rapper Jimmy Prime is credited as doing so), he is known as popularising the term worldwide. ‘The 6’ features in such Drake songs as ‘6 God’ and ‘9’.
Meanwhile, Drake has received 14 nominations for this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards, having featured in more category shortlists than any other artist for three years in a row.
This year, he will go up against the likes of Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar for Album of The Year, Lyricist Of The Year, Best Live Performer and more.
The BET Hip-Hop Awards take place on September 17 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. Footage from the ceremony will be televised on October 4.
