Term joins binge-watch and sideboob in online edition of dictionary
The term YOLO, or “You only live once”, has been added to the online edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
The abbreviation of the phrase was coined by Drake in his 2011 song ‘The Motto’ and has been adopted by wider popular culture in the subsequent three years.
Also new in the online edition of the Oxford English dictionary for 2014 are terms including amazeballs, sideboob, binge-watch, hate-watch, ICYMI (in case you missed it), FML (fuck my life), and SMH (shake my head) via BBC News.
Meanwhile, Drake inadvertently landed the Toronto Raptors with a $25,000 (£15,000) fine earlier this week. The Canadian rapper is an official ambassador of his local basketball team and recently made comments about Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant while performing at his own OVO Fest in Toronto on August 4.
Drake is currently touring the US with Lil Wayne in a live show which sees the pair battle each other during one segment of the show. An app can be downloaded prior to the performance which allows fans in the audience to “help their favourite rapper ‘power up’ and impact their performances in real time”.
Both rappers teamed up on new song ‘Grindin’ to promote the tour.
