The rapper will help rebrand his team for the 2014/15 season
Drake has signed up to become global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors basketball team.
The Canadian rapper announced the news today via a press conference, which you can watch below. He will be responsible for helping to rebrand the team and franchise as well as promoting the city as a key destination for the sport with the hope of increasing attendance at games. Drake will also help create a new clothing line for the team, which will get a new logo and colours.
“I’m extremely passionate about two things – my city and my family,” Drake says in the clip which you can watch below. “Being up here with my new family, these gentlemen, I’m extremely excited…everywhere I go I reach the gospel that is Toronto. I love this city with all my heart.”
Drake released his third album ‘Nothing Was The Same’ last week (September 23). Although the album was pipped to the Number One slot on the UK Official Albums Charts by Kings Of Leon, Drake’s first week sales tally of 61,000 made the LP the fastest selling hip-hop album of 2013, beating the opening sales of Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ (which sold 25,000 week one) and Jay Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ (39,000).
‘Hold On We’re Going Home’ contains 13 tracks including ‘Started From The Bottom’, ‘Wu-Tang Forever’, ‘Tuscan Leather’ and ‘Pound Cake’ featuring Jay Z.
