The Canadian rapper notched up more than 7 million plays in a single week
Drake has broken Adele’s record for the most single streams in a week in the UK – after single ‘One Dance’ notched up more than 7 million plays in seven days.
The Official Charts Company has confirmed that the song, taken from new album Views, was played more 7.8 million times in seven days – beating the previous record held by Adele’s Hello, which racked up 7.32 million plays in its first week of release last October.
The record was achieved as the single clocked up a third week at number one in the UK charts – with the streams supported by 129,000 chart sales and 50,000 downloads.
The Canadian rapper’s new album was released exclusively on Apple Music last week – and includes collaborations with Rihanna, alongside singles ‘Hotline Bling’ and ‘Pop Style’, the latter of which had previously featured Jay Z and Kanye West in an earlier version.
Speaking to Zane Lowe, the rapper previously revealed how the new record had been influenced by growing up in Toronto.
He said: ‘This album is probably my highest level of vocal performance.
“The album is based around the change of the seasons in our city [Toronto]. It starts out in the wintertime… That was what I used to tie it all together.”
