OVO Sound, the Canadian record label founded by Drake, will apparently release some kind of collaborative album later this year.
US hip-hop artist iLoveMakonnen, who is signed to OVO, discussed the album during an interview with HuffPost Live yesterday (10 March).
“A collaboration album? I can’t say too much,” he said. “It exists. We’ll just see when it comes out.” Pushed to specify a potential release date, iLoveMakonnen added: “Maybe October some time, right?”
Drake co-founded OVO Sound, which is based in his hometown of Toronto, with his co-manager Oliver El-Khatib and producer Noah “40” Shebib in 2012.
In addition to Drake and iLoveMakonnen, the label’s roster includes PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, OB O’Brien, Roy Woods and recent signing dvsn.
The label’s next album release is expected to be Drake’s hotly anticipated ‘Views From The 6’ LP, which is due in April. Earlier this month (March) Drake hinted that the album’s recording is on the “home stretch”.
The album’s first single ‘Summer Sixteen’ was released in January and peaked at Number Six in the US and Number 23 in the UK. Drake released two mixtapes in 2015 and his last album, ‘Nothing Was The Same’, came out in 2013.
