Drake says he’s started working on his next album

"I’ma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again"

Drake has announced that he’s started writing his next album.

The Toronto rapper told the crowd on Tuesday (April 9), at one of the London dates of his Assassination Vacation tour, that he has begun working on his new record.

“I kinda actually started night last night to be honest with you,” he said in between songs. “But I think what I’ma do after this is go home, and I’ma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again.”

Drake’s last record, ‘Scorpion’, was released in 2018. In a three star review, NME’s Luke Morgan Britton wrote that the album “was supposed to be a victory lap, the coronation event for rap’s long-running heir apparent.

“Instead, ‘Scorpion’ sounds like Drake knowing that he’s won, cynically deciding not to challenge himself. Sure, the crown is still his, but to quote Drake’s own words on this album: ‘Is there more?'”

Last week, Drake surprised fans when he brought J Hus onstage at The O2 just hours after the rapper’s release from prison.

Drake’s residency at London’s The O2 (temporarily renamed The O3) has been full of guest appearances, including GiggsDave, Fredo, DigDat, and Unknown T.
