Eagulls say, ‘No thanks to Yorkshire Police’ on collecting Best Video award – watch

Band took home trophy at NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas on February 26

Eagulls, who took home the Best Video prize at the NME Awards with Austin, Texas earlier this week (February 26), gave a special mention to Yorkshire Police in their acceptance speech.

The Leeds-based band were given the award for their video, ‘Nerve Endings’, which includes footage of a rotting pig’s brain. As singer George Mitchell previously told NME: “Some guy had come round to sort the gas out ‘cos we hadn’t paid the bill. He’d gone downstairs, seen there was some fucking brain rotting and called the coppers.”

Other big winners at this week’s ceremony, which was held at Brixton O2 Academy, included Blondie, Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney and Lily Allen. Performances came from The Horrors and Drenge plus Metronomy, who opened the show by performing ‘Love Letters’, from their forthcoming new album of the same name, with MKS. Belle & Sebastian played ‘I Want The World To Stop’ and ‘The Boy With The Arab Strap’.

Arctic Monkeys dominated the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas, however, picking up five awards including Best British Band, Best Live Band and Best Album for ‘AM’.
