Ed Sheeran: ‘If you’d told me at any age I’d receive an award from Stevie Wonder I’d be chuffed’

Wonder presented the award for Song Of The Year

Ed Sheeran has reacted to being presented with the Grammy for Song Of The Year by Stevie Wonder.

The singer-songwriter won the prize for his song ‘Thinking Out Loud’, beating off competition from Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Little Big Town and his friend Taylor Swift.

Speaking on stage to accept the award, he said: “If you would have told me 11, five, any age, that I’d receive an award from Stevie Wonder I’d be chuffed.”

He also spoke about writing the song and his parents’ trips to previous Grammys ceremonies. “We wrote [this song] on a couch in my house after dinner,” he explained. “My parents have flown out to the Grammys for the last four years and every year they say ‘maybe next year’.”

Earlier in the night, Sheeran was given the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
