Ed Sheeran scores the fastest selling album of 2014

'X' goes straight in at Number One

Ed Sheeran‘s ‘X’ has become the fastest selling UK album of 2014 after shifting more than 182,000 copies this week – over 14,000 more copies than previous best seller, Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories,’ according to the Official Charts Company.

‘X’ features Sheeran’s singles ‘One’ and ‘Sing’, the latter of which became his first UK Number One earlier this month. Sam Smith follows at Number Two with ‘In The Lonley Hour’, while Lana Del Rey has dropped to Number Three with her third LP, ‘Ultraviolence’. Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’ remains at Number Four, and Paolo Nutini‘s ‘Caustic Love’ rises two places to Number Five.

Glastonbury is also having an effect on the Album Chart. After their Saturday performance, Elbow’s ‘The Take Off And Landing Of Everything’ climbs 39 places to Number 19. Meanwhile, Rudimental’s ‘Home’ is up 59 places to Number 24, and Arcade Fire‘s ‘Reflektor’ is this week’s highest climber, rising 85 places to chart at Number 25. Both Lily Allen and Haim also rise to 27 and 40 respectively.

On the Singles Chart, Ella Henderson drops to Number Two with ‘Ghost’, replaced at Number One by Oliver Heldens’ and Becky Hill’s ‘Overdrive’. Ed Sheeran’s ‘Sing’ stays firm at Number Three this week, while Example’s ‘One More Day (Stay With Me)’ debuts at Number Four. George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’ completes the Top Five.
