Plus, new high entry for Mastodon and their album 'Once More ‘Round The Sun'
Ed Sheeran could pass Coldplay in the race for the fastest-selling album of 2014 with his new album ‘X’ Number One at the midweek point today (June 25).
Official Chart Company data reveals that Sheeran’s second album has already sold nearly 100,000 copies during its first 48 hours of release. At this midway stage, the album has also nearly equalled the entire first week sales tally of his 2011 debut ‘+’, which sold 102,000 copies in six days.
Sheeran’s chart dominance also transfers into the Official Singles Chart, with the singer-songwriter boasting five tracks in today’s midweek Top 40 – ‘Thinking Out Loud’ (20), ‘Don’t’ (31) and ‘Photograph’ (34) join former Number One single ‘Sing’ (3) and ‘One’ (21)
The current record for fastest selling album of 2014 is held by Coldplay’s ‘Ghost Stories’, which sold more than 168,000 copies when it was released in May.
There is only one other new entry on this week’s Official Albums Chart Update with Mastodon’s ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun’ reaching Number Seven.
