Ed Sheeran, Eminem and Wham! in race for Christmas Number One single

Eminem is also leading the pack for the Number One album

Ed Sheeran, Eminem, and Wham! are in the running for this year’s Christmas Number One single.

The festive chart-topper will be announced on Friday (December 22). Last year’s Christmas Number One was claimed by Clean Bandit and their Sean Paul and Anne Marie-featuring single ‘Rockabye’.

As the Official Charts Company confirms, Sheeran is currently in the lead in the festive battle with his Beyoncé collaboration ‘Perfect’. Eminem is in second place with ‘River’, while Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ is at Number Three following a campaign to get it to the top spot in memory of George Michael, who passed away last Christmas Day.

The cut-off point for sales and streams to count towards this year’s Christmas Number One comes at midnight on Thursday (December 21).

Eminem is also in contention for the Number One album this week. The Detroit rapper released his first album in four years, ‘Revival’, yesterday (December 15).

The record is currently outselling Ed Sheeran’s ‘÷‘ by three-to-one copies. Bookmakers William Hill have closed the betting on the Christmas Number One album.

Spokesperson Rupert Adams said: “With a heavy heart we have decided to close the Christmas number one album betting as we could not give the others away. Eminem is the jockey on what is a one horse race and he is a certainty for the Christmas Number One album.”
