Ed Sheeran and his girlfriend just got engaged

The singer's partner is the inspiration behind Christmas Number 1 'Perfect'

Ed Sheeran has announced that he is engaged to his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.

The ‘Shape of You’ singer-songwriter took to Instagram yesterday (January 20) to share the news with his 19 million followers.

Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” he captioned a photo of the couple. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx”.

The singer previously said that Seaborn had been the inspiration behind his Christmas Number One and ‘÷‘ track ‘Perfect’

Last year, Sheeran spoke of his break from music between his second and third albums. Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 radio show, he said it was “the first time I’ve ever had the time to fall in love properly.”

The news rounded off a highly successful year for the singer – who headlined Glastonbury, earned an MBE, and became the most-streamed artist worldwide on Spotify in 2017. Sheeran’s third album ‘÷’ also became the biggest-selling vinyl record of the year.

Elsewhere, the singer has been named in a lawsuit, in a case of alleged copyright infringement for a song he co-wrote for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

‘The Rest Of Our Life’ last year became an international hit for McGraw and Hill, but now Australian duo Sean Carey and Beau Golden have claimed that it was ‘blatantly copied’ from their 2014 track ‘When I Found You’, written for Jasmine Rae.

Looking towards his next record, Sheeran recently said new material would be taking a surprise direction – with a ‘lo-fi’ sound’ inspired by Bruce Springsteen.
