Ed Sheeran hints that he got married in secret

The star announced his engagement to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn in January

Ed Sheeran has hinted he got married to his longtime girlfriend in secret in a new interview.

The musician announced his engagement to Cherry Seaborn on Instagram in January. “Got myself a fiancé just before new year,” he wrote. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”

Sheeran has now been quizzed on his wedding plans in an interview with Access. Asked if the couple had picked a date, the star blushed and lifted his left hand to show a silver band on his ring finger.

Asked how he managed to “sneak that one”, Sheeran replied: “Well, I never really do anything too public anyway.” Although he didn’t confirm for definite that he was now married, he thanked the interviewer for his congratulations. Watch the moment above.

This comes after Sheeran put plans to build a private chapel on his estate on hold so a search for great crested newts could be held.

The singer-songwriter has applied for planning permission to add a Saxon-style chapel to his land in Suffolk, but Suffolk Wildlife Trust, amongst others, have raised concerns about the construction. According to the trust, ponds on Sheeran’s estate “could be breeding sites for this species.”

Meanwhile, Sheeran recently joined Don McLean on a performance of his classic song, ‘Vincent’. The pair were both performing at a UCLA Health and Teen Cancer America benefit concert earlier this month (August 18) when they started playing the track together backstage.

The ‘Shape Of You’ star is now the world’s highest-earning solo musician with a reported net worth of $110 million (£83 million). He appeared ninth on Forbes’ annual list of the world’s best-paid celebrities, alongside the likes of U2, Coldplay, Kylie Jenner, and Lionel Messi.

Sheeran was also the most streamed artist of 2017, with his album ÷ racking up 3.1 billion streams around the world last year.
