Songwriter Jason Isbell called the rendition "a huge honour"
The Pearl Jam frontman was performing at the Innings Festival in Tempe yesterday (March 3) when he paid tribute to the Oscar-winning film.
‘Maybe It’s Time’ is performed in the film by its director and star Bradley Cooper, and Vedder gave his take on the song during his set – watch the performance below.
Jason Isbell, the writer of ‘Maybe It’s Time’, later tweeted out his appreciation to Vedder for covering his track.
“Holy shit Eddie Vedder sang my Bradley Cooper song in his set tonight,” he wrote. “That is by far the strangest sentence I’ve ever composed but it’s certainly a huge honour. I was 12 when ‘Ten’ came out and by god I learned how to play every song on it.”
Vedder served as a primary inspiration for Cooper in the latter’s approach to playing his A Star Is Born character Jackson Maine. However, it emerged back in September that Vedder had voiced concerns about the acclaimed reboot to its director.
“[Vedder] thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie,” Cooper recalled. “He was like, ‘What? Bro, don’t do that.’”
Vedder is well-known for performing notable covers during his live shows: back in September, he covered The Smiths with Johnny Marr while he took on a Beatles classic during an acoustic show in July 2018.
