Singer also speaks about Manchester band's year off
Elbow frontman Guy Garvey says the Conservative party are a “bunch of bastards”.
Speaking to Metro, Garvey was offering his opinion on why the ‘Olympic spirit’ experienced in the UK was so short-lived.
He said: “We’re all aware of what tough times we’re having… David Cameron’s less-than-subtle dismantling of the NHS is on everyone’s mind. The new push with police commissioners – it’s depressing watching him turning the country back to the Victorian era. That’s why everyone’s depressed. This bunch of bastards are using the recession to get the Tory work done… It will take us a couple of decades to undo this bunch’s handiwork.”
Currently on a UK tour that culminates in a show a London’s O2 Arena on Sunday (December 1), Garvey also spoke about the band’s proposed yearlong hiatus , during which he is to work on a King Kong musical with Massive Attack and composer Marius de Vries.
Of the band’s proposed time off, Garvey says, “We’ve been together for 22 years, constantly pushing at it, and we’ve never had time away to do other things. As the rest of the band have kids, we’ve decided to have a year off. We’ll still be writing but we’re going to go our separate ways for a bit.”
