Ellie Goulding to release this year’s official BBC Children in Need single

Goulding's cover of The Waterboys' 'How Long Will I Love You' has been selected as this year's charity track

Ellie Goulding is to release a cover of The Waterboys‘ ‘How Long Will I Love You’ for BBC Children in Need.

Goulding’s cover of the folk-rock band’s 1990 single already appears on her deluxe album reissue ‘Halcyon Days’, which came out on August 26, as well as the soundtrack to Richard Curtis’ new film About Time. Now it has been selected as this year’s official Children in Need single, the BBC confirmed in a press release earlier today (October 7). Listen to it below.

The charity single will be available to download from November 10 and Goulding will support it with an exclusive performance on the BBC’s Children in Need appeal show on November 15.

Goulding said in a statement: “I’ve grown up watching BBC Children in Need so it’s fantastic that I’m doing this year’s single! It is an emotional song, but in a really positive way, and I’ve been completely blown away with the positive reaction it’s had already.”

The official BBC Children in Need single has been responsible for six Number Ones on the UK’s Official Singles Chart over the years. In 1997, David Bowie, Bono, Elton John and many others joined Lou Reed for an ensemble Children in Need version of his classic track ‘Perfect Day’, which went on to raise over £2.1m for the charity.

This August (2013) Goulding bagged her first Number One on the UK’s Official Singles Chart with ‘Burn’, another track from her ‘Halcyon Days’ album reissue. The singer will play her first ever arena dates next March (2014).
