Photographer recalls near-death experience he and Ellie Goulding encountered in Norway

Conor McDonnell was on tour with Goulding at the time

A photographer has recalled how he and Ellie Goulding nearly died after after losing their mode of transport to extreme weather conditions in Norway earlier this month.

Conor McDonnell shared the story on Instagram this afternoon (January 25), telling his followers about a trip to Norway which saw them encounter treacherous weather that led to a technical problem and them being forced to scramble out of the sun roof of the vehicle.

“This photo is from when we were in Norway a few weeks ago,” McDonnell explains. “That moment when you’re in -25 [degrees] in the middle of nowhere in Norway in the pitch black and your belt wagon crashes through the ice in the middle of a lake and you have to emergency evacuate through the roof. ‘Oh shit we’re in’ was my first though. Second was to take photos. We were in the front cabin. That is pretty much under water in this photo. A few minutes later it was all completely gone under the water and ice for good.”

McDonnell was travelling with Goulding as she tours Europe. The tour will arrive in the UK in March and will see Goulding play arena gigs in Cardiff, Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham before the tour ends with the two London gigs.

The dates follow the release of Goulding’s latest album ‘Delirium’ in November 2015.
