SIR ELTON JOHN has sold off a selection of his clothes at a charity shop in LONDON, raising a £100,000 on the first day of business.
John put in the region of 15,000 personal items up for sale at the ‘Out of the Closet III’ sale on New Bond Street in London. Sale items range from £5 baseball caps to outrageous stage costumes, priced at tens of thousands of pounds.
One costume, a purple stage outfit with matching gown, was priced at £25,000. The proceeds of the sale will go to the AIDS Foundation, who work to help people diagnosed with HIV.
Fans travelled from around the world to be at the sale. One woman, Sharon Kalinoski, travelled from Chicago and spent £1,000. She told the BBC: “I bought over 60 items, some of which I will keep and some of which I will give to fans back in the US.”
Sir Elton John was present to open the sale with partner David Furnish. The star joked: “It’s the poshest charity shop I’ve ever been in, I’m very impressed.”
The sale will continue until all the stock is sold.
