Singer offers support to former Olympian and Kim Kardashian's stepdad
Elton John has offered his support to former Olympian Bruce Jenner for publicly revealing his transition from male to female.
Jenner, who is Kim Kardashian’s stepdad, revealed his desire to live his life as a woman in an interview on US TV show 20/20 yesterday evening. Speaking to Access Hollywood ahead of the interview, John pledged his support to Jenner, stating: “It’s an incredibly brave thing to do, especially when you’re older. I admire him for doing it and I support him 100 percent.”
Other musicians including Lady Gaga and Angel Haze also gave public support to Jenner following his interview. You can see their messages below.
Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, posted a photo of her and Jenner on Instagram along with a message of support. “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself,” she wrote. “Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter.” See her message below.
An Elton John biopic, titled Rocketman, is currently being made by the singer’s film company Rocket Pictures, whose biggest hit to date is 2011’s Gnomeo & Juliet, a computer-animated children’s film that grossed over $190 million (£125 million) worldwide. The singer will serve as an executive producer on the biopic and is planning to “re-record many of his iconic hits to parallel the emotional beats of the film”.
Tom Hardy will play John in the film, although the actor admitted he was having problems replicating the singer’s vocal skill. “I’m not a singer,” he said. “I have no idea really. I’m really trying because of Rocketman but it’s hard to open my mouth in that way.”
