The singer dedicated 'Tiny Dancer' to his support act Tom Odell at London show
Members of the crowd at Elton John‘s iTunes Festival show last night (September 12) booed when the veteran performer dedicated a song to One Direction’s Harry Styles.
Sir Elton gave a shout-out to Styles before playing ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me’. “Thanks to the fabulous Harry Styles,” he said, to some booing from the crowd. “I love One Direction – fuck off,” said Elton in response.
Earlier, he dedicated ‘Tiny Dancer’ to Tom Odell, who played in support at the show at London’s Roundhouse. “I’d like to dedicate this song to Tom Odell, who I’m so fond of and such a big fan of, and he’s going to be around for a long time,” he said.
The singer played a set heavy on tracks from his ’70s golden period, indluding ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Philadelphia Freedom’ and ‘Bennie And The Jets’ plus tracks from new album ‘The Diving Board’. Stephen Fry, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and presenter Alexa Chung were all in the crowd.
The iTunes Festival shows, which continue daily until September 30, are free for competition winners. All performances will be streamed live via the iTunesFestival app, Apple TV and on iTunes.
