Elton John told he can’t adopt Ukranian baby

Ukranian minister says singer is too old to adopt

Elton John has been told by a Ukranian minister that he and partner David Furnish are “too old” to adopt a baby boy from the country.

The singer had been hoping to adopt a baby named Lev who he met while visiting an orphanage recently.

However Ukranian government minister Yuriy Pavlenko has pointed out that according to Ukranian law the age difference between 62 year-old John and baby Lev is too great for him to be allowed to adopt, reports BBC News.

In addition John and Furnish‘s civil partnership would not be recognised as an official marriage in the country, the minister added.

“Citizens who are single have no right to adopt children,” he said. “And the age difference between the adopter and the child cannot be more than 45 years. The law is the same for everybody. For a president, for a minister, for Elton John.”

John is yet to declare if he is set to take on the government with regards to an adoption.
