The Darkness top album chart...

ELTON JOHN has scored a Number One today (August 31) on the UK singles chart with ’ARE YOU READY FOR LOVE?’, his ‘lost’ disco classic recorded in 1978.

And on the album chart, camp comedy rockers The Darkness rise to the top of the pile, several weeks after the release of their debut album ’Permission To Land’.

Elton John’s success pushes Blu Cantrell down to Number Two.

There is a glut of new entries this week. Sean Paul goes in at Number Three with ’Like Glue’, former Five member Abs enters at Five with ’Miss Perfect’, Kelly Clarkson goes in at Six with ’Miss Independent’, Speedway score a Top Ten hit, going in at Ten with ’Genie in a Bottle/Save Yourself’, and Shania Twain just misses the Ten, going in at 11 with ’Thank You Baby’.

There are only two other new entries on the Top 20. Lee Cabrera with ’Shake It (Move A Little Closer)’ at 16 and former All Saint Melanie Blatt at 18 with ’Do Me Wrong’.

A little further back, the fantastically hairy Jet score a hit at 23 with ’Are You Gonna Be My Girl?’ and New York’s The Rapture enter at 27 with ’House Of Jealous Lovers’.

UNKLE and The Thrills enter a little further back again.

On the album chart, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club enter at Three with ’Take Them On, On Your Own’.
